ATTEMPTED DAMP PROOFING

Now I'm no expert but I'm sure this isn't the best way to damp proof walls!
Over the past couple of years the damp on the kitchen walls has been getting worse and I couldn't find any cause for concern outside the house. I'm now in the first steps of re-doing the kitchen and when I removed the units I think I've found the reason.
The walls were skimmed plasterboard which were full of mould. After pulling off the plasterboard, I realised the problem. Some plank had used what can only be described as bin bags to create a waterproof membrane between the wall & the plasterboard
I wouldn't mind but the brickwork is fine and dry, so in attempting to keep the moisture out, they have actually mangaged keep the mositure in the boards & stop air getting through the walls. Safe to say I have now removed the plasterboard & the bin bags!
