Clamping material on a clarke drill stand

Post by harrym »

Hello -- am new here but I wondered if anyone could help me out.

I just bought a Clarke drill stand (http://www.machinemart.co.uk/shop/produ ... ill-stands) and have put it together. It looks like it should do me fine -- but I'm having a bit of trouble holding the material I'm drilling.

The pillar drills I'm used to (from school, so some time ago!) had a proper table that you could use a G-clamp on. And the nicer ones had a clamp with two sliding parts so that you could get stuff centred exactly.

But the drill table on this thing is fixed directly onto the bench, so it's impossible to use a g-clamp. And I don't know what the other things I could use are called, so it's hard to search for them. There's something in this video that looks exactly right:

Hence the post! Does anyone know what that's called, or where to get one? The only thing I've been able to find is this, which looks a bit weedy:

Thanks in advance!

Ah, awesome, thanks. Didn't spot that.

Not sure which one is the right size -- any ideas? MachineMart don't seem to say. And clarke don't have a website that I can find. Their manual still has a telex and lists their phone no as 0181... :)

That same one is sold on Screwfix for £17.95. I have one like this for my pillar drill and you do need one.

Drill vice, and a nut and bolt
I tend only yo use one bolt in my vise, this allows the vice to slide /rotate to quite a range of places on the table.
