Hi everyone & Thank god I,ve found you

Post by ItalySteve »

As the title says, Hi to everyone.
Hopefully over the next few years you folks will be able to help as I,ve done something either very stupid or the best move I,ve ever made. Only time will tell.

Last year the wife and I sold up in UK and moved to northern Italy.
we are just in the process of buying two 200 plus year old houses that are in need of everything, neither have been lived in for at least 50 plus years.
Maybe you thinking " he must be a builder or have experience of this". the answer is No. none apart from laying a few tile hallways and putting the odd shelf up.

Both houses have solid walls approx 70- 100cm thick made of mixed stone and old bricks covered thick plaster. First job will be to uncover everything and see exactly what we have let ourselves in for. No such things as surveys here, bit like playing poker and going all in.

So sorry to say I will have so many questions starting today on recommended tools to start the job as I think my little old Bosch drill is not quite ready to deal with walls like these.
Please see Q,s in other sections
Thanks for reading

Hi Steve,

I can't see why you would want to move away from the British weather

Hi to Italy and Welcome :thumbright:

Good luck with your move, it sounds hard work but will be very rewarding from what I remember of the Norther part of Italy :?

My only advice is to learn the lingo if you don't already know it - makes it easier to talk to the locals, merchants and tradesmen.

What was the reason for the move ? - if it was a move to the alpine/dolomite area don't bother telling me ::b

Hello ItalySteve. Welcome to the forums. Where in the northern part do you live at?

thanks for the welcomes.

I live in a small town just inland from Genova in some beautiful hill / mountain ranges, no skiing though but plenty of vine yards.

Hope everyone is well, saw the weather reports on bbc internet today, should keep a few of you busy with repair jobs for a while.
We've almost got the reverse problem here at the moment, very hot and alot of the countryside is tinder dry.

The weather here is awful at the minute!

I have never known it rain so much at this time of year, it really is unbelievable. Darwen always gets it's fair share of rain, but there are many parts of the UK that are having serious floods and for these people the weather is making their lives a misery at the minute.
