Yahoo pop up problem

Post by sparkydude »

Keep on getting this yahoo pop up page appearing, when typing emails, it is as though i have a hot key set up to go to the yahoo mail page, but it seems to change keys that activate it every time. I think it might be adware , but cannot find a decent adware/pop up remover, any tips ??

Nick
If it isnt broke dont bloody touch it until it bloody well is and if it is broke then make drawing of the connections before you remove the broken one and replace with a new one LoL

Ah ha, junkware thats my cake.

There are several things to do and several places to look.

- Control panel: 'add/remove programs' if you're lucky it'll be an application you can remove.

- Have you recently installed an application, especially a downloaded application? Try removing that as well.

If you still have problems, it'll be hidden so start checking system processes.

- Right click the start bar and open task manager.
Select the processes tab, open the view menu and choose 'select columns'
Put a tick in the box for PID (Process Identifier). Ok that window. Then click on the new PID column to sort the list with the highest number at the top.

What you're looking at are all the programs running and the PID is the order they were started. The highest number being the latest to run, try turning off anything you don't recognise. Don't worry you won't hurt your PC and windows won't let you turn off something it needs. After shutting down all you can try reporducing the problem.

If that fixes it, restart your PC and make a note of all the process you closed, then google the names to findout what you're dealing with.

If you want something that does the work for you. Try these programms:

Spybot
Excellent Application that also guards against unauthorised registry changes. IMHO as essential as any anti-virus.

Ad-Aware
Another program to keep installed, free updates and good search, combined with Spybot and you should be able to kill 99% of all known bugs - dead!

End It All
Not a lot of people know about this; allows you to take command of all running programs that windows itself can't or won't close for you. An additional tool alongside task manager.

If none of the above helps, post some screen shots of whats running in task manger, and the webpage that opens when you're using email.

8-)

Hi tried all things you said and its still here. When it happens it shows up in the bottom left of the screen launching email and goes to the yahoo mail sign in page. the process indicator does not show anything unuual at the top of the list when it launches . it says in the web address box HP pavillion something, which is the model of my computer so i am completeley baffled now, any more ideas as i am about ready to rip the frigging monitor off the desk Grrrrr

On a similar note, my home computer is p*ssing me off at the minute ::b

I have incredimail installed and I am having a few problems with it, like for instance messages that are on my approved senders list go straight to the deleted items folder ::b There are no settings to be able to change this :cb

Also now when I try and copy and paste using right click a pop up appears from incredimail ::b ::b ::b ::b

I ordered a new dell desktop and it should be here tomorrow (hopefully) It's a good job because yesterday my computer was completely dead and will not do anything and so it looks like it has either fused or the power supply has gone

I seem to have a problem with power supplies as I must of changed three over the years! Luckily I have a spare one somewhere!

I find it most annoying when you get pop ups on the computer

Do any of the fans work?

Have you tried taking out a stick of RAM and booting again?

Have you got any broken/damaged USB ports?

It must of been the old power supply!

I tried the power lead from my printer and it fused it!

Now the old power supply is back in the pc and the fuse has been changed and it is now working.

Tomorrow it is going to a friends house for good, I am just getting all the data off that I need and then I will format it.

I have been so lucky that this computer turned up a day early
