Converting a carberetter car to E85 orE100

Post by Yachtsman »

Both of these fuels are frankly still hard to get, but when they are more freely available they will be cheaper than petrol and better for the environment. They will also be better for the balance of payments because they're made here. Initially using higher concentrations than the 5% that's now in petrol by law now. Might not seem good. But you can get away with doing surprisingly few adjustments. 1 Change or drill out the main jet in the carburettor by 140%. 2 advance the distributer by two to four degrees make the float 10% heavier tune the slow running jet to get a tick-over. These minor changes will make your car run better than it ever did on fossil unleaded. You might might have to fit a manual choke. Some older cars might have rubber seals that might degrade. Older BL cars might need a carb kit Ethanol runs best in engines with a compression ratio of 14 to 1
