Sander

Post by Blob Blobby »

I have had 3 orbital sanders over the years in addition to a belt sander and a power file.

In general I have found the 1/3 orbital the most versatile of the sanders I have. However after having a Bosch for a number of years - it eventually died of old age. I have found with the staggering reduction in the cost of power tools that I cant find a good sander.

The main problem seems to be that the wire clamps that are on all sanders now are pretty feeble and I end up with torn paper most of the time. The old bosch had a plastic clamp along the front and rear which clicked firmly into place.

Also due to the wire clamp construction, they dont hold the sheets "square on"

Can anybody recommend a sander, and like I say I am not after something for £9.99. I want something that I will get general medium use for a few years.

Thanks,
Bob.

heeelllooo and welcome Blob Blobby

i have one of these
http://www.tooled-up.com/searchresultba ... chButt.y=7

it uses velcro and the usual wire grips altough they are cleverly set up so the the wire farthest from handle comes into tension first to even out the grip to stop slipping
we are all ------------------still learning

I have metal clamps on the sanders I have and don't have the problem you are having. Do the clamps make the paper tight or is somewhat lose when you add the paper?
