Hi all, Im hoping someone can offer me some advice!
We have an archway between our lounge and living room which is 206cm high and 124cm wide. I want to block this up to make two separate rooms.
Is a partition wall the way to go? Only issue with this is that the wall is textured so i would probably have to get someone in to do the plastering to make it match.
Does anyone have any alternative suggestions? Im open to ideas!
Cheers.

its usually very difficult to match into a hand textured surface dhar, if youre not overly fussed about keeping the texture I'd suggest the easiest and quickest way to produce the best results would be to stud (timber or metal) and plasterboard the archway up, then plaster the whole wall flat and smooth...
if you really want the textured finish I'd also suggest you do this first, then re-texture the whole lot to achieve a seamless finish, you'll never know it was ever there...
shame its 1240 and not 1200mm (plasterers moan
) ah well...

All my advice should be taken with a rather large pinch of salt, all the gear, absolutely no idea whatsoever ;)

Hi,
Thanks for your reply. Were on a bit of a budget and plastering the wall on both sides (yep, someone liked texturing walls!!) i imagine would be quite costly!??

depends mate...
how big is this wall?
100 quid maybe? smallish wall..
150 bigger one?
getting the working area clear, removing the carpet for a metre or so both sides, just roll it back? anything you can do to make the blokes life easier will help and should provide you with a cheaper quote?
can be a messy job plastering so you know, make life easy and its a bag or two of bonding and maybe a bag of finish, 1/2 - nearly a full day? few depending factors like how thick is the texture? will it scrape down? maybe its got asbestos in it?
might just want a quick scrape, pva and 2 coats of skim? might not....
you'd have to post a pic or get someone to look at it, no good me pricing for someone else though...

thats assuming youve done the stud and board correctly...
personally i'd MUCH rather do the stud and board myself, that way i can be sure its a) solid and b) at the right 'level' to enable a nice flat surface with minimum effort...
that would be your best bet mate if im honest, or thats what im would do...
stud and board extra, obviously, maybe another 60 or 70 quid?
