mosaic wall tiles

Post by andy-p- »

How do you cut holes in mosaic wall tiles for sockets?
Got a little job to do in the neigbours kitchen and theres loads for sockets which i'll remove, but i think its going to be a pain in the ass job if i got to cut half way along the individual tiles so i can get the socket back on.

Just read it back and it sounds double dutch to me, so i ve just done a little drawing!! :-)

Bare in mind I'm a DIYer so I may do it wrong but....I just cut out a hole slightly larger then the socket itself by cutting the matting at the back, stick the section of mosaic tiles on and cut the smaller tiles to fit (the ones you cut out from the main section) and place around the socket.

Hope thats clear . I'm sure one of the pro's will tell me I'm wrong in their own little way

It is a pain in the arse Andy.........no other option but to remove single mosaics at a time.......then wet cut single tiles to fit around socket.....

make sure that any making good around sockets is perfect......or when you tighten up the sockets..........they don't pop out :thumbright:

skiking, am i right in assuming you are saying you do not pull the socket off of the wall and tile behind? If so then this is NOT the way to do it, the sockets should always be surface mounted onto the face of the tile , NEVER set into the tile and grouted around as the customer gets very annoyed when the socket goes wrong and you have to wreck the tiling to replace the socket .

Nick
If it isnt broke dont bloody touch it until it bloody well is and if it is broke then make drawing of the connections before you remove the broken one and replace with a new one LoL

No, always take the socket off, for everything - plastering, wall papering and especially tiling. :thumbright:

My comment was to cut the hole slightly bigger than the socket itself so you can get the matting past the socket then cut the spare squares so they fit up to the edge of the back box, let it all set then screw the socket back (having offered it up first to make sure the tiling is neat)
