Well not really a DIY disaster, more a stupid mistake.
Couple of months ago, we aquired a new Tent. Only place it could be stored was the loft, its a big bugger (Frame tent) and not much room to move near the loft hatch, so moved the insulation wrapped around the water tank in the loft.
Got the tent stored ok, and closed loft hatch....fast forward 2 month.
Wife asks, whats those!!! Pointing to little shrooms growing between wall and ceiling, in corner of bedroom.
Several tiny little fungus things about 3-5 cm long had appeared from nowhere.
Cleaned them off and check wall, no damp or stains...but still not sure why they sprouted...
So took a look in the loft...about 3'ft area of flooring under water tanks was wet/damp!
Pulled back all the glass wool insulation around the tanks, and discovered part of the insulation had dipped into the expansion tank and started wicking the water out, saturating the insulation in the immediate area and making the joists & boarding damp.
Anyway..were in the drying stage now.
I sprayed a load of bleach on the fungus and around the water tanks, checking every night to make sure the damp is clearing (loft hatch open, with fan-heater pointed at water tanks.)

We have lathe & plaster walls, the old stuff with horse hair mixed-in. I am not going to eat anything that sprouts from a 100year-old mix of hair and damp dirt.
The tent is fine, stored in canvas bag few feet away, just the tanks are inches from the hatch so not much room to get stuff in & out the loft.
