Firefox Web Browser
Anyone here use Firefox?
I am trying it out, but when I look at the same sites side by Side - Firefox compared to MS IE - the firefox font looks a bit thin and washed out. I like the IE display better - wondering if it is something to do with ClearType - any ideas?
Screenshots below of same site with each browser to show what I mean.. (the JPG format has made both a little worse, but what I am talking about is still there, I think)

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman, "Where's the self-help section?"
She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

I'd get your frigging eyes checked out.
Firefox's fonts are sharper
IE is soft round the edges.
I've looked at Hoovie's captures and the pictures on Richie's link and to me FF looks WAY better.
On question, doesn't applying that effect give your video card more to do. Isn't it some sort of Anti-aliasing effect?

Nothing you do is a waste of time - especially if it can be used as a bad example by others...

That is exactly what it is. There is a slight load on the graphics card, but not enough to notice generally, I would have thought.
There is a Clear-Type tuner that you can run and see which looks best on your system. The reason that FF may look better to you and IE better to others could be down to a diference in LCD panel manufacturer (assuming you are using LCD) so youwould tune Clear Type differently.

Well I didn't want to say it could be down to monitors 'cos that'll start a Willie Measuring contest.
I run top end Dell LCD displays, the same that our CAD designers use. And they are a bunch of whining gits - so it'll be a good spec.
Perhaps the 'higher value' end of the market might not be as sharp so the lack of focus I can isn't obvious to everybody.

OK I'll give you that. But they are not £75 panels from Staples
Not aimed at Hoovie, but I do get bored with folk Dell bashing.
They are good enough for what they do.
It tends to be anally obsessive anoraks who hate them. The same folk who will religiously upgrade drivers every time a new update comes out LOL
Mind you they need to. It's the only way their home specified and built super PC's will keep running

Hi Slugs - I don't hate Dell. I DESPISE THEM
Well, to be honest, I know how good the service used to be when they started and I know what they are like now (I worked there for over 10 years and joined when they made the PCs downstairs and the help desk was upstairs).
Hate it when a good company starts to screw its customers when they get a dominant share.
