Tools for flatpack furniture
Post by The Weegie »
What tools do you use for flat pack.
I normally use a cordless screwdriver but find that the battery life is poor and it also takes 3-5 hours to charge.
I also use a 14.4v drill which has no problems with charge time or battery life. However I find it hard to use it in tight spaces.
Could I be behind the times when it comes to tools?
Looking forward to your responses.
Cheers

It may seem difficult at first! But everything is difficult at first.

I have a 12v bosch driver that is good at getting in tight spaces.
You have to be careful with the torque setting though as it is easy to damage flatpack with a cordless.

Always a power drill/driver - but on the lowest torque and the final twist with a manual screwdriver or allan key.
Never gone for glue as well, have to say.
FWIW, always found IKEA made the most reliable flat-pack stuff - and they will send you any fittings you want FOC

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman, "Where's the self-help section?"
She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

I'm like you Hoovie, I always use an allen key for the last couple of turns.
Most of the cordless screwdrivers are rubbish unless your willing to pay £100 plus.

I bought one of these quite recently from Amazon

It is a pretty powerfull little thing and not bad value (I had a £10 voucher had to use so treated myself to it as I am now a Ryobi fan)
Nice and lightweight

I've the same as owen and there the dogs ballax for flat pack.
I'm a Plumber & it's the best power tool I've ever bought. I keep it in my tool bag & use it all the time. The battery appears to never go flat!!!
With a good selection of good quality 1/4 hex screwdriver bits, job done!!!
