Combination Bit Sets

Post by Hoovie »

Been a bt of chat about Combination sets recently - thought I would post a couple I bought last week.

Firstly I bought this DeWalt Driver Bit Set:

total of 45 pieces, but instead of having bits covering all the various sizes, it concentrates on the most common sizes including 8 x Titanium P2 and 10 x Normal P2 in standard length, some double-ended P2s and P2 + Flats, various Square Drives and some adapters.

Bought this as a better quality item to replace bits from a cheap and nasy B&Q set.

Other set I bought was this Ryobi 17 piece Drill Bit set that features a 1/4" hx shaft and a locking chuck to secure the bit in the drill

Again, this set is to replace the drill bits in the B&Q set - especially as two recently shattered in normal use .
These bits are Titanum coated and look a lot better quality.

Lucky enough to be able to buy them in the US and they came in at £10 for each set.
A fair price for the Ryobi, but seems excellent value for the DeWalt set :thumbright:
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman, "Where's the self-help section?"
She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Its when drill bits are so soft that the flutes unwind when drilling that is a very bad sign, ive had very good drill bits shatter.

Looks like you got yourself a bargain there Hoovie :thumbright: I tend to buy individual drill bits because in my trade i only use a couple drill sizes but that set looks tempting :thumbright:

Hi Hoovie

Do you have a model number or name for the DeWalt set, it's just what I'm looking for, but I can't seem to find it online.

Cheers

Hi Nick,

I don't have the packaging and there is nothing on the box itself, so this the best I can do....

The Till receipt calls it a "29PC DEWALT" and the till code for it is 028877528144, cost is $19.97
Although it comes up as a 29 PC set, it actually has 45 pieces
Bought in Homedepot (www.homedepot.com) but does not appear on their website as an on-line or in-store item.

Screwfix have a few sets that seem similar.
The nearest in the bit selection looks like this one - 45pc Dewalt Screwdriver / Nutdriver Set
The nearest in presentation is this one - 29Pc Dewalt Screwdriver Bit Set but is missing a load of bits

And without meaning to rub salt into wounds, the prices are mad compared to US price  - I did see this 45 piece set on ebay though ...
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman, "Where's the self-help section?"
She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Thanks Hoovie

Looks like they might have stopped doing it I've looked all over the web.

Folks are in Florida next month so will ask them to look out for something similar.

Thanks again for taking the time to look.

Cheers

I am annoyed by the sets that contain Phillips bits, which I suggest are rarely, if ever, used in the UK.

The reason the sets have mainly phillips bits in them mooncat is because they do not seem to have pozidrive in america, well not that i could find in any of the diy stores i went to, everything out there is phillips.

Nick
If it isnt broke dont bloody touch it until it bloody well is and if it is broke then make drawing of the connections before you remove the broken one and replace with a new one LoL

The Phillips bits at #2 size do fit the Screwfix Turbogold very well, mind :thumbright:
I am not sure if that is because Screwfix had adapted the head in some way? it LOOKS just like a Pozidrive, but they call it a Prodrive (and has the little (r) by Prodrive on the box)

Oh, and that Ryobi set for £30 inc Bag - does seem excellent value :thumbright: :thumbright:

all the drywall screws i have ever used have been phillips, not pozi. you can use pozi in them but i find a phillips works much better.
