Hardie backer board

I have ripped out ensuite and am doing a DIY refit.

The old ceiling was partly tiled, and also partly sloping, so I took off the tiles - and the plasterboard behind them.

I have replaced the plasterboard with Hardie backer board.

Should I now to skim this and paint it ?

Or should I just tile straight onto the backer board ?

I'm inclined to do the first, I don't think tiling is necessary.

What do you think / what would you do ?

Oh, and there are small gaps in the joints. These would be filled either with skim plaster or with tile adhesive - is that OK ?

pics would be a bonus, I'd be inclined to say don't tile unless it's going to get wet (Showerhead spray or similar)

The sloping ceiling starts six foot (1830) above the floor, i.e. about 69" (1755) above the shower tray floor. This would (usually) be below the shower head, but not entirely immune to re-bound. But at a 45 degree slope, water would drain/drip off relatively quickly. Probably.

Assuming the slope isn't going to be getting a significant amount of water. then leave it un-tiled, just make sure that where the tiles meet the slope there is a bead of silicone to prevent water ingress....
