Dead battery drill.

I've just been cutting holes in my newly plastered ceiling for my new spot lights. Hmmmm, looking really nice..... Then bang?????? I look around and my battery drill has fallen off of my step ladder. The handle has broken off the body of the drill, the gearing has gone, and the battery has split and snapped its clips off..

RIP one 18v Cordless Hammer/Driver......... :sad: :sad: :sad: :angel7:

Anybody seen a cheap or can get hold of a 18v DeWalt XRP with batt/charger/case. I've done the usual e-bay searches and looked at a few sites on the interwebgoogle, loke IPT etc. But theyre all over £200, and im pretty skint at the moment. I've heard about recons from my local dealer that go for £170 all inc. Any dealers or people in the know want to help me out.

Bummer.

If you get a new carcass/shell can you not put it back together?

If not you could always sell it on ebay and put the proceeds to a new drill. Post back if you can fix it as my mate used to have some old knackered 18v dewalt drills, he might still have a couple, you would only need a battery then :wink:

I did that to a drill too, snapped it clean in two! I'm guessing the old one isn't the same as the replacement, so you cant reruse charger!

wakedr is a great seller on ebay, I have bought quite a bit from him.

All the dewalt chargers are the same,apart from the 24 volt on, which uses a completley different shape battery.

The 18 volt ones are all the same but you have to watch out for the 3.0 AH batteries as these require a special charger, I believe.

I brought the 7 piece set from him... It so good... saved me a few times. I notice now he dispatches from the UK!

I think Mudster brought this up on TT, he ships a container full at a time over here and gets it despatched when needed.

I have a similar 7 piece kit to you, but mine is in the dewalt case and it is heavy and cumbersome. The tool bags are a much better idea.

buy a complete new drill an just keep the body

then sell the batts, charger and case separately on ebay, I paid £60 for a charger earlier this year

Thanks guys. The old drill was a Travis Perkins 18v combo battery drill. Was absolutely spot on, and has lasted me over four years kitchen fittng + more...

About e-bay. Yeah i've bought some stuff from wakerdr before. Its all been spot on. Gloves, bits, chopsaw etc.. I reckon I might go for one of the new Makita sets..

Like the styling of the kit and a couple of guys i've worked with have the battery drill, and all say its way more comfotable to use than the DeWalt??? Plus it looks all space age and funky... Yes I know I'm sad!!!

Anyways. It's my 30th on the 12th Oct. So I'm gonna see what the relic's come up with...

PS. Any thoughts on the carhartt link below. I swear by the workwear. I first discovered the brand when i started skateboarding. The trousers and dungarees are just bombproof. I used to go through so many pairs of trousers, shirts etc whilst working. Its the tuffest clothing i've ever used. Everything just washes straight out of it and nothing seems to cut it, stain it or damage it at all....Its all down to the special patented weave of cotton they use.

I normally wear a pair of shorts and tee shirt :lol:

You can get the stuff from a few UK dealers. But they tend to be a complete letdown. They never have enough stock or they only have a small ranges and their prices are rediculous. I buy it online from the USA. A pair of Unlined Bib Overalls on e-bay can set you back about £20-30 plus about £10 postage, where instead they would cost about £60 from a UK shop. Also the USA has a better selection of styles and sizes. Check out the North America part of the site...

I buy my stuff from places like this on e-bay.

A pair of unlined dungarees (thats bib overalls to them) for $40 + $11 postage. Thats about £30.....

I honestly guarantee that the jackets, trousers and dungarees are the toughest stuff you'll ever buy. As a full time pro, and quite honestly a non stop worker even in my spare time. I'll never (have to) buy anything else again.

I always found this a bit odd for a company thats been making workwear since 1889 in the USA, to stick solely to just the USA and have such a small market overseas.

i love my makita 14.4V MXT drill much better than my dewalt xrp version

and I love my snickers, really comfy and also last an age
