I have read somwhere that boiling hot water will kill the grass.If this happens how long will it take to get back to normal?

I've never done it, so have no idea. I'd think the grass will just spread across to cover up bare patches given enough time.
Failure means you just didn't get it right yet!

Once you kill grass thats it. You would have to rely on self propagation or the surrounding grass spreading.

Your best best is to either cut out the dead section and lay turf or more realistically scuff up the suface, put some grass seed down and then add some soil - I think the terminology is top dressing (a mix of sifted top soil and sand). Your best leaving it a couple of months (March/April) :thumbright:
