Hi Chris
I came across a similar problem for a customer a few years ago....the cause being a very small break in a live conductor feeding a lighting circuit that opened up as the conductor heated during use and broke the circuit (i'm not saying this is your problem...but it is possible).
The rewireable fuse would only blow if you had a short between conductors on a circuit (if at all as rewireables have to take a large load...and go with a real bang).
The sockets will stay on when the lights go off as they are fed from a different fuse.
You really need to get this checked out by someone experienced in fault-finding as they normally have the equipment necessary.....and please consider getting your consumer unit replaced for a modern one....so much safer for you and/or your family
