Tablet screen replacement

Post by kellys_eye »

Anyone done a tablet screen (glass) replacement?

I've just done one for an iPad mini. Bit fiddly (lots of miniscule screws) and p1ssed off at getting finger prints on the actual screen - they are a bugger to get off again - but got the whole thing back together again.......

witha frikken HAIR trapped behind it ::b :cussing:

The very last thing before fitting the new glass is removal of a protective plastic sheet - and the static electricity that was generated pulling it off must have drawn a loose hair towards it. Didn't notice until it was all sealed down again ::b

and, yes, as you'd expect I BROKE the flippen glass trying to get it back open again ::b ::b ::b

sigh.....

fortunately the glass is cheap these days but damn.... you need 'clean room' conditions to do it properly.

I've done a couple of phones, but I just buy digitiser and screen assemblies - can't be bothered dicking around with the glass.

Look at the ifixit website, met the guys that run it at a conference - really good people, excellent guides and community!

Cheers BG - I've seen loads of tutorials but it still needs a very careful hand (and eye) plus the clean room kind of environment.

The only upside is that the replacement parts are cheap and easy to obtain.

I've just been handed the nieces tablet to do now  Better get this one right.... she was made to raid her piggy bank for the £20 to teach her a lesson about looking after the thing but, of course, I won't take the money! Just making her sweat about it - brother-in-law insists she 'suffers' the indignity for standing on it in the first place.
