Laminate worktop, two depths joining.

Post by axiom82 »

Hi all, is there any chippies or kitchen fitters that can advise me?. Firstly, let me just say, I'm new to kitchen fitting, although I do have some knowledge of the tools and techniques used for kitchen fitting.
I'm trying workout how to join two laminate worktops of different depths (front to back). I want to have a 600mm worktop that will meet-up with a 900mm breakfast bar. The worktops both will run along one wall, not a 90 degree joining. To complicate things further, the back edges of the worktops will not be aligned. The 900mm breakfast bar will be doubling as a window sill, so the back edge will be about 200mm further back than the 600's. This means that the front of the 900mm worktop will be 100mm deeper than the 600's. So how should I join?. I could just do a simple 'butting up' but I would prefer to make a nicer join, if possible. I've thought about using a worktop jig but I'm unsure if they're meant for this type of joining. Any advise would be appreciated.

do you need 100mm overhanging the front? cut the bb down to 800mm and have the front lining thru?

just wants a butt join
