Just read on another forum (won't mention any names because don't want to be accused of spamming, ok it was moneysavingexpert.com ) that a bloke that was building his own extension was told by the local authority that he could not do any work on Sundays or Saturday afternoons.
This sounds absurd to me. i've heard suggestions before that there are rules re working on Sundays but surely there aren't any rules about working Saturdays. Most tradesmen I know work on Saturdays so this can't be right.
Just thought I’d see if anyone else had heard of anything like this before?
Also, who would make the rules re working on certain days and at certain times? Are there national rules? Or would these be decided by local authorities?
Sorry for all the questions. I just hate not knowing!

Saturday working
Just seen this thread on other DIY forum and I think it is a very interesting question. So I have taken the liberty of cutting and pasting it on this forum for any comments that members would like to make.

could be a covenant in the particular location he lives in?
An old girlfriend I had had parents who lived in a 'posh' housing estate and there was a covenant there that stated no tradesmen Vans were allowed to be left on the estate overnight - and it was strictly monitored!

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman, "Where's the self-help section?"
She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

I think it is a local authority decision, i was working in a village in west wales and we had to down tools every night by 6 and was only permitted to work saturday mornings till 12, the village was mostly upper class. i must of had a good dozen complaints about noise and was even asked to park my van off the street because it made the street look untidy, from what i can gather money talks in that village

I think there are rules that states any work whether professional or DIY has to stop around 21:00 at night. This is to ensure neighbours get some peace, I have heard about the no weekend work rule also, not sure where.
Maybe from a builder sometime.

The neighbours on one side of us put laminate flooring in after 10pm and the other side put fence panels in at 12.40am and wondered why the dog barks!EJJ150847 wrote:I think there are rules that states any work whether professional or DIY has to stop around 21:00 at night. We have trade vans on our road but they're not supposed to park on the estate. People just ignore the rules.
Failure means you just didn't get it right yet!

May be they get away with ignoring the rules because people can’t be bothered to pull them self’s up to there full height and make a formal complaint and standing by there convictions. I other words instead of just talking about problem take the bull by the horns and do something about it if you don’t you want to be walked over by these donkeys.John
