Covering Concrete Hatch

We recently had the house rewired and whilst doing the work the company broke open this concrete hatch under our kitchen floor. We have no intention of ever going under here again and would like to seal it up.

It's a little loose, would the best option be to pack out the gaps with timber so it's tight and lay concrete over it?

What would be the best concrete to use? Anything of the shelf from Screwfix or B&Q - they are local.

When the hatch was up, what was in it?
It must be serving something.

It gets you to a 1ft void under the house. Our sockets and switches are now all chases from above and pipes are surface mounted.

Sorry for asking another question. But when you say it's your intention to lay concrete over that floor, how thick do you envisage that the concrete would be?
If it is only a case of removing slight dips or hollows, self-leveling compound would be the product to use. In this case the coumpound would self seal around the hatch.
If it's a bit more than dips or hollows, sharp sand/ cement screed would be required.
But only concrete if you intend an additional thickness of 65mm or more.

You are right Davy, this is what I had in mind. I simply want to secure the concrete hatch which has slight movement when you stand on it and level the area before having a new vinyl floor put down.
