DAMP - IS PVA THE ANSWER?

Post by Yellowbelly3 »

Help please! Have two problems:-

About to have new carpet fitted, and after moving items of furniture have spotted two largish brown stains, which look as though it is damp coming through the areas (one area is concrete, the other quarry tiles). Will PVA sort this out to stop the damp damaging the new carpet, please? If so, do I mix it with water or something, what ratio please?

Secondly, we are having a wood-burning stove fitted next week in our existing open fireplace. We have steam-cleaned the bricks to get the soot off and make it look more presentable, but someone said we should seal the bricks. Would a PVA mixture do this as well please, or will the temperature surrounding the stove be too hot and a more specialist item used instead?

Thanks for your assistance - time is of the essence, so hopefully someone knowledgable out there is reading this at the moment!

Regards

No not really if there is a problem with damp you need to find out what is causing it.

Is the floor damp or are the stains from something being spilled?

Not sure about sealing your bricks :?

Totally agree with joiner uk,you need to find the source of the damp.It could be a sign of a larger problem in the future,If you can"t find the source call in a expert it may save you a lot of money and hassle.

There are products on the market which are designed to seal brickwork, don"t use the PVA.
