hi im new here and need a little help. I have this monitor lying around and wish to hook my dvr to the monitor but this monitor is from a car no video output that fits into dvr

How would i mod this to make it fit my dvr to receive my cctv image here is a pic of dvr and monitor

It sounds a good idea, but unless you can connect the input of your monitor directly to the DVR output it will not work, you may also need some additional hardware.

If it doesn't work as I first said, you will probably spend more time trying to do it than you would if you got a new monitor (I use el-cheapo TV's for my CCTV, the latest ones have multiple input sockets. just plug and play)

i would that the monitor/tv is missing some parts, normally if they have no inputs built into the unit then there is a separate metal control unit which is designed to be hidden away under the dash board of a car etc which has all the inputs on it.

is there a brand or model number on the tv its self at all? is there a reason your not using the pc monitor you already to view the CCTV? i mean most new flat panel monitors will support VGA and DVI meaning you could use it for both CCTV and PC although you would not be able to view both inputs at once.

This monitor was in a car as sun visor monitor. reason i wanted this monitor i was thinking mount to wall and it be on constant. so i can see cctv all the time

Why not do as I suggested? buy an el-cheapo TV and mount it on the wall. This one came from Tesco

The red/black pair are the power connection.

The other white/black pair are the video input (it may be that the white is video, the black is audio (or vice versa) and that your 'common' should reference to the supply negative wire). Whatever, you can't do any harm by mis-wiring them anyway......

Get a video lead that fits the 'video out' socket on your DVR and connect the two together.

Your problems may start with the differences in video signal standards i.e. is the signal from your DVD the same 'type' as that from the original feed to the display?

macadac, is there a "back" for the monitor you have?

whats the make and model of the screen ? it should be marked on the pcb

the input could be anything composite, gvif or even proprietary

imho its not worth messing with, you can pic up a 15-17" vga lcd monitor for peanuts or even free from the likes of Freegle or Facebook
