2018 F1 Season started

Post by kellys_eye »

....with a whimper.....

Disappointing to see the inability of cars to overtake - seemingly worse than last year too.

If the FIA decide the rules then surely they could make it a rule that aerodynamics should be designed to ASSIST the cars following (I have no idea how but restricting the number of elements in aerofoils may work) as this would make overtaking MUCH easier and therefore a more watchable sport.

Haas must be kicking themselves - well, their pit crews! - but a promising start to the mid-field teams who will potentially provide more entertainment that the usual trio leading from the front.

McLaren seem to ave the upper hand as far as performance is concerned but the strange rules re pit lanes and Virtual Safety Cars is just 'wrong'.... they should close pit lane access under VSC/Safety Car conditions or, at the very least, make such pit stops a mandatory MINIMUM time period.

But, if they don't fix the overtaking issue then this season is going to be the usual 'parade' that spolied many previous years viewing.

Lastly - no glamour girls! This world is seriously fcuked up with PC-ism.......

Another borefest for me. A total precession from start to finish.

Again it wasn't drivers abilities that won the race it was tactics and knowing when to nip in to the pits.

I'm very quickly going off f1. I now just record the highlights and often skip through or sleep through them.

I quite enjoyed yesterdays race until the "virtual safety car" How the hell did Vettel make up over 8 seconds under VSC conditions ? And then they put out an actual safety car. If the actual safety car had been released instead of VSC it would have been a very different result.

As for the lack of overtaking, the Aussie circuit has always been a pig for any real overtaking opportunities, other circuits will be very different.

@ Kellys eye, yep those pit mechanics certainly need their 'aas kicked...

Easy way to overtake. Just wait for the Virtual Safety Car, then nip in the pit lane.      (I feel a rule change coming before the next F1 GP)
