Advice required. Blending in new plasterboard for a ceiling

I have the task of cutting out some plasterboard, fitting new plasterboard and trying to blend in the stipple effect finish the remaining plasterboard has. I saw some stuff in B & Q last week and wondered if it was any good?

I plan on rolling it on and using a sponge to get the stipple effect. Hopefully it would blend in reasonably well.

Would this be the correct way to go?

You’ll always see the patch imo. Can you not just overboard the whole hall ceiling? A fiver a sheet and then just tape and fill joints for a smooth finish all over. Unless the staple effect is needed.

She's trying to sell it Stevie so I think she's just looking for a quick fix. I thought there was maybe a very thick paint plaster type of thing that would give me something similar.

That stuff actually came out okay. I smothered it on really thick with two coats and it's barely noticeable.

It turns out I was saving photos to 'mi cloud' which I deleted when i changed mobile providers last week.

If it is Artex, and that ceiling looks like it, you can buy a bag of Artex powder mix to knock up a batch to repair. You lay it in and then press your trowel on and pull it off for the stippling effect. If it is a more elaborate swirl pattern you need to buy a plasters comb that suits the profile.

Well, it is not very fashionable these days but if you are trying to repair an existing Artex ceiling then this is the way to do it. It is true that Artex pre 90's may well contain asbestos so if you are chipping old stuff off keep it wet and use a mask. Other thann that get it all skimmed over flat.

I still have it in my shed. I'll post a photo soon but from memory it was B&Q's Diall stuff.

By the way that stuff is down to £5 at my local B&Q in Cumbernauld. Not sure if its nationwide.
