What are my options

Post by jimmy86 »

Hi All,

I am replacing the bathroom and wish to put a shower over the bath. I have removed the bath and the couple of rows of tiles that were around it and am working on filling to make a good surface to tile onto.

My questions are:
1. The area above the bath has been painted. I have stuck some tape on this paint and when removed paint comes off in some areas. What is the best solution to this?
2. Does the area need to be tanked?

I was complementing fixing some aquaboard to the walls and tiling over this, but that would mean having to board the whole room and space is limited for the bath as it is. Are there any other ideas?

Thanks,
Jimmy

You could fit aqua panels to the wall instead of tiling, you glue them in place and there are many designs.

Thanks. I'll have a look at the Aqua panels, wasn't convinced by some of the samples I saw.

I tried to remove the paint using tile adhesive today and it did absolutely nothing, it doesn't come of when scrubbed either. I'm tempted to try and score it then tile over the tip of it. Potentially tank too? Any ideas?

Cheers.

I used Respatex in my bathroom. To test it, I left some in a bucket of water for over two years, it never moved at all, no warping, no expansion, no delaminating, still perfect. I even made some hinge jigs out of some left-overs and they're still fine, as are the walls, bathpanel and splashback in my bathroom. (I hate tiles).
