Wife’s craft room

Well having moved house, and been busy refurbishing I finally got around to refitting her craft room.

Re-sized the birch ply worktop and extended the Formica top into the window.

Draw sets checked over and the runners lubricated

Shelves rejigged and one new set made for loose leaf files

Complete wall of Ikea storage boxes and a 4 cube set with ply top

General decoration and the left over oak engineered flooring from rest of house, didn’t board under the Ikea stuff and landed up with one 2.1 metre length spare

She seems happy and says sitting under window gives perfect light for sewing , ooo browny points !

Looks good but it must be awfully hard keeping things from falling off the desk when she is working that way up ;)

We have built in an anti-gravity machine, so orientation isn’t a problem.

I hate IKEA stuff, but for some things it just works, that is now full of fabric. might get a couple of shirts if I am lucky.

Very nice, 4 stitch Overlocker as well, my DW is a little bit jealous, she worked professionally in the "rag trade" for nearly fifty years, started making shrouds, the Yorkshire one had pockets in them

ended up with her own, one woman business making high end wedding gown's and military uniforms.

Nos, my wife is DIY, she started sewing when she was about 4 and continues. There are several other machines not on show , yet

And the amount of fabric around is unbelievable, in the loft , the other spare room and the garage.

Fluff and pins are a recurring problem on the floor in our house LOL

Of course the other funny thing is when I suggest I get a decent table saw , the retort is “why” , mmmm

That sewing machine cost me £2000 let alone the overlocker.

Very tidy room!!!

On the sewing machine as a few weeks ago I opened the box of my brand new 10 year old Aldi sewing machine (£39.99 or something like that) to fix some rugs for my large hairy friends (4 leg friends). Does Mrs work with small pieces of fabric? Does she not need a drop at the back of the table to allow for longer pieces of fabric etc.?

About the table saw. I would just get one and put it in the same room. Nothing beats sharing your experiences together.

The wood dust would play havoc with those sewing machines!

My pal has 3 (two owned, and a leased and now retired partially blind old lady which she keeps and pays all her bills). Plenty more in the yard

I don't ride as that would be cruelty to animals but I love stroking them, talking to them and avoiding been kicked or bitten. The mare (one of the two) when she was rescued from the butcher and my friend got her (her mother bought her really because she has the looks of a race/jumping horse), was one of the stroppiest horses in the yard, kick bite ask questions later. Three years later being treated nicely with lots of attention she is one of the sweetest horses. Whether she will be ridden again is another story given she recently got stressed and did some damage to herself, and in any case when at her last school, she was diagnosed with heart murmur therefore she could not be insured and she would have gone back to the merchant and then to the butcher. Lovely animals.

Yes, we had a horse and a pony for many years, They are both sadly dead now, the pony made 30 and the horse 24. It is a lot of work looking after horses and when we moved into a property with our own land we had them at home rather than at the livery yard. As they were more or less retired we kept them in their loose boxes at night all year around and they had nice thick beds of wood chippings. It kept us fit, mucking out and doing all the work season to season. I could not go through the end of life for the horses again as it is never a natural end.
