Upstands - cutting

What's the best way to cut worktop up stands? They are 120mm tall so won't fit in my mitre saw (only single bevel). Should I hire a double bevel saw or is it possible to cut them using a clamping mitre box. There are 2 external mitres and 2 internals so don't want it to look naff.

If I were to hire one from HSS do they come with a good enough blade or would I need to get a better blade in advance?

You can get mitres on a single bevel mitre saw

How? It chips the top if it is facing towards the back of the saw and turning it the over way up so the front is facing upwards results in major front chippage.

Am I missing something or do i just need a better mitre saw?

How many teeth have you got on your blade?

To cut laminate you need a decent blade I have a 80 tooth to cut upstands

68 teeth on a 215mm diameter blade. It cuts fine so long as the face is down and the top is pointing away from the back of the saw.

Try covering the cut line with masking tape to reduce break out

You need a good quality blade,I cut some high gloss upstand today with no problems and no chipping. I have a 60tooth trend blade on my saw at the moment.

Looks like your blade is a bit dull

Laminate it's a killer on blades I have cut worktop to lenght with my circular saw using a 30tooth blade without breakout on laminate covering the cut line with masking tape
