BBC News or BBC Sport?

Thing is, is that sport in all it's infinite, (and as far as I'm concerned infinitely boring) forms, and all the "reality TV" we get these days is easy to make. It requires little creativity on the part of the producers, whichever network they work for.

about does it for football I'd have thought. . .

Or following around after the police, which is OK occasionally, but not when it seems that half of what isn't sport is some sort of police reality program.

What about some actual entertainment for the licence fee? Proper drama that's not the same old actors dragged out into yet another police drama, or some sort of "comedy"?

Because I dislike sport so much and detest having it rammed down my throat I'm moaning well I admit I'm moaning and believe I have the right to do so.

ok done some calculations
assuming a normal day is from 0600 to midnight thats 18 possible hours off veiwing
approximate olympic coverage
now 3.15 mins a day are "olympic breakfast" on bbc1 but have included in the total as i am never up before 9.30 lol
total for saturday to friday
bbc1 possible 126 hours coverage 84.45m or 63%
bbc2 possible 126 hours coverage 39.25m or 31%
bbc4 possible 77 hours coverage 77 hrs or 100%
so total average 65% off program time to one subject
i personally think one channel dedicated should be the maximum allowed preferably the red button

Seeing as how you have your thinking head on and seem to like the maths maybe you could calculate the total percentage of sport on all bbc channels over a twelve month period then we could have figures to back up the moaning?

What would happen if a soap was shown in the middle of a sport event? It's OK though to move programs around in order to show sport and people like me have to sit back and not complain. If it's not Olympics then it's some other sport; there seems to be a sport for every month of the year and each sport dominates the BBC until the next sport takes over.

I've now solved the problem by not switching on BBC TV but Bron and I still pay the BBC licence although to sports lovers this is fair? We are now sport free relying on YouTube; Bron is currently watching YouTube music videos and earlier we've been watching episodes of Howard's Way. Breakfast and dinner time we watched Last Of The Summer Wine. I didn't have my thinking head on nor do I bother with the maths; I don't need either; just a pair of eyes to browse the latest BBC Sports? Sorry if I've been moaning because I don't want to offend anyone the way sports coverage on BBC TV offends me?

Thanks Dave54; I couldn't agree more. Lots of modern TV programs are absolutely mind numbing; just because I don't like sport doesn't mean I like the rest of the rubbish? Bron used to follow Coronation Street and Emmerdale but now hasn't bothered for a few years because it's becoming too political; there has got to be a mix of race and gays included; I haven't watched any soap for many years and programs like Big Brother I've never watched seeing enough by the clips?

I've enjoyed an excellent day taking Bron out this morning then after dinner de-rusting heavy metal in the garage using the 9" angle grinder. Tomorrow more de-rusting then hopefully I can move on to painting before steel erecting; perhaps the weekend will see me watching something really interesting like paint drying?

As I say no offence to any sport lover intended or inferred I'm just different and am pleased I am. I just let a bit of steam off on the forum rather than bricking the telly.

i have to agree with you about soaps and those idiotic things like big brother or bloody geordie shore. not all geordies are helmets like those guys.

seems that less and less people go on about big brother these days.

as to the tv licence i bet you still access something by the bbc col? thats the craik i guess. in a weeks time the olympics will be done and then itll just be a token sports section like it normally is. this year has just been particularly sport heavy. next summer there wont be olympics or any football tournaments that get much of a mention. maybe the copa america but hardly anyone here is that interested in that.

the good thing is all this sport encourages all the younguns to get themselves outside and run about and be kids rather than them sit and play on computer games or whatever.

col, when you were a youngun did you play any sports out of interest? just wondering why there isnt a sport that you have any form of interest in. its certainly fairly unusual. many people that i know who dont like the contact sports like foota/ egg chasing or whatever like other sports like athletics or cycling or motor sports. or even stuff like snooker or darts

As a child I suffered severe asthma and was forced to play football and rugby at school which is rather difficult when unable to breath? However aged 11 I grew out of the asthma and in secondary school made a heck of a lot of progress; I ended up captain of the Blue cricket team and when I left school had the bowling record of five wickets for six runs; I also played cricket for Dewsbury first eleven. I used to attend motorcycle race events.

I've never been into sport though possibly due to my enforced sport as a child; I had a shed at the age of 15 and used to restore old motorcycles finally dumping my bicycle and riding my BSA 250CC for the first time on the public highway on my 16th birthday; I've not ridden a bicycle since that day. I went into the pit aged 15 as an apprentice mechanical engineer and from then on I've been grafting. I've no interest in sport at all much preferring to do something practical using my head and hands as I still do to this day; relaxation to me is an interesting project to get stuck into and then I have something at the end of it. I acknowledge I'm totally different to the average guy both in thought and action. My life revolves around my lovely wife Bron and our home. Bron too has plenty of hobbies to keep her interested so we rub along very well together Bron not just being my wife but my best friend too.

Once the Olympics are over there will still be lots of sport on BBC because it's never ending; every Saturday for instance on BBC 1 any week of the year what is shown from getting up to going to bed?

I expected lots of flack when I added this thread but it wouldn't have bothered me because it generates discussion and interest on the forum and I'm not scared of sticking my head above the parapet; we are all different but I think I must go to the extreme?

it does sound like you were fairly handy at sports in your younger days then. its a shame the asthma affected you the way it did.

im a little bit the oposite. i was useless at foota and the like when younger and only marginally better now but its good to get out with 16 or 18 mates once a week. have a bit craik. take the p*ss out of each other and get a sweat on. then say see ya and go home. or to the pub

but that bike racing thing was fantastic though. 2 false starts and then finaly they went and bang another gold in the keirnin. well done jason kenny. it must have taken some concentration and discipline to overcome the 2 false starts and go on and win it. especially when he could have been disqualified.

i am sure it was a time thing but it wasnt showing the olympics it was a compilation off "coast" clips lasting about 25 mins or fairly close to the olympic newsnight at around 30 mins

Bron and I don't have children fin. Before marrying I used to be out with the lads on our motorcycles; 1971/2 I was a Member of The BMW Motorcycle Club and also a member of The BSA Front Wheel drive Club. I Owned a BMW R75/5 750cc and also a BSA 1,200cc trike. Once I got married though with a very large mortgage it was time to settle down; I still have a few chums but we are spread apart so only meet occasionally; we are all alike in that we don't like sport and have common interests in our hobbies.

Today got off to a poor start; as Bron and I were in our front room a small bird flew straight into the window glass ending up on the decking obviously stunned; we went out and the bird was still alive but very shaken; I gently picked it up in the hope it would come round and fly away as other birds have previously done but the poor thing hadn't a clue where it was; I carried it right to the top of our rear garden and placed it in the grass remaining with it for about ten minutes; it was distressed but kept trying to lift off so I let it have its chance; I came down to have breakfast then both Bron and I went up the garden but the poor thing had died so I've just buried it. Bron and I are soft when it comes to our wildlife and this kind of thing upsets us.

I ordered paint through eBay which is to arrive tomorrow or Friday (estimated) Bron and I are about to go out so what are the odds of the paint arriving early?

dear me. how old were you when you got married?

im 35 now. ive had a somewhat crazy few years when i was growing up. ive kinda chilled out a little bit in recent years. and pretty much got my finances sorted out now. they were crazily skew wiff a few years back. i suppose thanks to me not meeting anyone to be with long term either married or living with... and also me being a bit of a daft lad too. now its time to save some ££ try and buy a house or 2 to do up.. ive got my eye on one or 2 local that need my attention like.

ive got a vast array of mates. a lot that i know through sport. playing or watching football. and then theres mates i meet up socially. a few bevvies and all that.

one of my mates insists on telling me about when he goes shooting up cleadon hills. and how i should join him. and if i did id retire from football and just want to go shooting all the time..... dont think thats happening... ever...

thats a shame about the bird col. its always a shame when stuff like that happens. like the times my cat catches birds in the garden, sometimes we try to get the birds away from the cat if we catch her early enough. but sometimes they just die of fright i guess.

its interesting to see all the different birds like when you have a decent sized garden.
