Finishing skirting board.

Post by Blakey »

Hi All,
I didn’t expect to be back posting so soon,
I have had new flooring fitted in my bathroom, and I am now fitting new skirting, my issue is how to finish the skirting at the architraves, the walls have been tiled down to the floor after the architraves were fitted, so the architraves protrude out approx 1/4 inch past the tiles, the skirting is approx 1/2 thick, the old skirting was planed/sanded down to a taper at the end to match the thickness of the architraves , not the greatest to look at, the skirting I am using is pencil edge if that helps, my question “is there a better way to finish the skirting boards up to the architraves?”

Thanks in advance for all/any advice given

I can think of two options:- mark the edge of the architrave on the end of the skirting and create a pencil round (to the pencil mark) on the end - a block plane and some scratch will do this in a couple of minutes - alternatively,if you have a multi tool, cut off the bottom of the architrave and fit a plinth block with sufficient thickness to encompass the full thickness of the skirting.

If your tiles are down to the floor why are you putting skirting board on?

Skirting boards were fitted before so there are lots of rawlplugs/holes visible in the tiles.

Just another idea , does it really need timber skirting in a bathroom ? Could not the skirting be tiles , either the same or contrasting colour. Alternatively how about thin plastic glued on to hide the holes ?
