Electric hob

Post by Rachael25 »

Hi boyz

I have an electric hob as shown in the photos. Two of the hobs have stopped working. Is there anything I could try myself to get them working?

Also is it worth trying to get it fixed? It costs about £100 to get someone to assess it (plus cost of fixing) versus £600 for a new one.

Any thoughts appreciated :dunno: :dunno:

Hi Rachael, have a look through this video and decide if you have the skills to do the job https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rv9tEHrBRII. The replacement elements can be found on Espares website, around £40 each, and you know which ones are not working. Just make sure the mains power is off. Good luck

It looks like a HK634060XB Ceramic Hob 60cm. AO have it listed at £358.00. I would replace it with new. If two have packed up, chances are the other two will soon follow suit.

That is probably a better idea, at nearly £100 in spares it is close to 30% of a new one and as said there is no guarantee that the remaining elements will not go.

Hi guyz

Thank you all so much for the comments. I am studying the YouTube video and will attempt it if I can. Nothing ventured nothing gained :huray:

Otherwise I’ll replace it as that price seems reasonable.

Thanx
Rach :hello2:

Hi Guyz

Hope everyone is well.

I took the advice here with my two hobs not working and went and opened it up. I was going to replace the elements but first tested them with my neighbour’s multimeter.

I’m getting a reading as shown in the picture. Does it mean the element is good or not?

Any advice appreciated :dunno: :dunno:

Rachael25, Best to stick to one thread. I've merged the two.

If the multi meter is connected to where the wires were connected it is showing that the "hot plate" is working.

You could also put the wires back (so you don't forget where they were) and check another "ho plate" if it has similar readings they both should work.

Or as the bloke on a TV ad says "Go compare" :-) (Which is what you would be doing, comparing one with the other)

You could also look up feedback for that "cooker" and see is it common for them to fail after X years, Yes, no use now, but if they do fail often, don't buy that model again

Above are my opinions Below is my signature.

Would you hit a nail with a shoe because you don't have a hammer? of course not, then why work on anything electrical without a means of testing Click Here to buy a "tester" just because it works, does NOT mean it is safe.

 If gloom had a voice, it would be me.

:idea1: Click Here for a video how to add/change pictures

:-) Hi Someone-Else

Thanks for your advice! I’ve tested all the elements and they seem to be all fine. In fact I swapped two the same over and a non-working element was then working.

I’ve tried to read everything online and it sounds as though the problem must be with the control unit. I can find it online for £168 which is still cheaper than a new one. Trying to save any pennies I can these days. It looks like it is just a lot of clip on wires the same as the elements so I’m prepared to give it a shot :-)

Any further advice appreciated :-)

You can buy a new hob for that much or a bit more. There is no guarantee that your new part will solve the problem and once you have connected it and tried it, if it doesn't work, will you get your money back? If you buy a different make and model, check that it will fit the hole in your worktop.

This is potentially Trigger's broom. Have a look at these alternates https://www.appliancesdirect.co.uk/ct/c ... c-hob/60cm I would be inclined to go with the Bosch at £219. Keep it in perspective that this is just a hotplate and the AEG has let you down so there is no great recommendation to go with the same again.
