I would not do it either so maybe I would not recommend it for you. I think the first question is whether a different size height cupboard could work (check the design), if it could then I would bite the bullet and buy a smaller height cupboard and door. Our boiler cupboard is deeper than the others but we are lucky that it can be the same height. You would have to make sure that there was plenty of access around the boiler maybe speak to your boiler person?
