Using Contact adhesive to seal sink cut out.

Would this be ok to use. As I have some leftover. Or is there a better solution?

Hi Manny,
In theory I'm sure contact adhesive would make a good seal - but it's a lot easier to use a mastic-type seal, silicon, or my preferred choice, Geocell 'The Works' - easy to spread and press into the cut surface, easy to wipe away excess (use a 'Wonder Wipe' or similar).
Keep your contact adhesive for a job you specifically need it for, and keep the rest of the Geocell for any of the hundreds of jobs it's good for (it's a strong adhesive as well as a sealant).

I prefer to use two coats of Evostik 528 (contact adhesive) if I have it with me at the time, otherwise I'll use silicone (one good coat) or PVA (three coats).

The PVA takes ages to dry with three coats, silicone less so and the Evo is quickest of all.

If your leftover contact adhesive is getting a bit old and thick it would be better to use something else.

I wouldn't have thought it as good as just using a bit of cheap silicone, probably just soak into the chipboard and still leave gaps.

I use contact adhesive,it goes off really quickly.

i go with silicone,. never thought to use contact adhesive to seal it before.

using a track saw to cut sinks out makes it easier to seal the edges. less raggyness

That looks like the Thixotropic stuff of which I have very little experience, (tried it once and didn't like it) - but it's still a contact adhesive, I guess if it spreads without any trouble it'll do the trick.

If you can spread it then you can use it. I had Ok luck with thinning some contact adhesive with acetone once, I really needed to get the job done, in future I would just buy new though.
